THE Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) yesterday opened a reservoir in a subdivision in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

The P10.6-million state-of-the-art reservoir can store 1,000 cubic meters of water that can supply about 3,800 households, including the homeowners of a real estate development, living within the Guadalupe area.

The water that will be stored in the reservoir, which was constructed within a 791-square-meter property near the entrance of Monterrazas de Cebu subdivision, will be sourced from five deep wells and from Abejo Water Corp., a private bulk water supplier.

The reservoir in Monterrazas de Cebu is the latest of eight MCWD reservoirs across Cebu. The other seven reservoirs are located in the towns of Liloan, Consolacion and Compostela and in the cities of Lapu-Lapu and Talisay.

Eugene Singson, MCWD officer-in-charge, said that with a reservoir now installed at the subdivision, water pressure for areas in Guadalupe will remain stable even during peak hours.

Donation
In July last year, Genvi Development Corp., which developed Monterrazas de Cebu, donated the property where the reservoir now stands. The donation was made after Genvi learned about the plan of MCWD to put up a reservoir and was looking for a site for the project.

Singson said that the reservoir uses state-of-the-art technology called glass fused to steel and it is compliant with the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) Standard 61, which regulates standards for drinking water.

He assured that with the technology used for the reservoir, fungus or moss will not accumulate within the facility.

Aside from Guadalupe, a similar reservoir using the same technology is also currently operational in another subdivision in Barangay Lahug. There are also reservoirs in Barangays Tisa and Talamban.

He said that due to additional water supply of 3,500 cubic meters provided by Abejo Water Corp., a reservoir is needed to be stored, especially during non-peak hours.
